About the conversation classes

Updated: Jul 28

So you're thinking about joining a conversation class with Kreis 6 English? Probably you want to know how they work and whether they will help you feel more confident when using English.

How they work

First, I'll ask you to prepare for the lesson each week by reading a newspaper article, listening to a podcast or watching a video. This exposure to new language will help to build up your passive vocabulary.

At the start of the lesson we'll talk about any new words and phrases that you've learned or that you don't understand. After that, you'll talk to your speaking partner or partners about the topic. You can use the questions prepared by the teacher as a starting point or you can make up your own questions. I'll encourage you to use one or two interesting words that you identified in the article, thus helping you to transfer these words from passive to active knowledge (you won't just recognise the words, you'll also be able to use them) At the end of the lesson, a short feedback session will give you some ideas about what you are doing well and how you can improve.

Who comes to the classes?

The lessons are popular with students who want to be more confident when speaking English. The topics discussed are varied and interesting, allowing students to develop a wide-ranging vocabulary. In addition, there is often a short instruction slot based upon the grammar that arises in the lesson.

Why should you come to a conversation class?

Exercising your brain is surely as important as going to the gym. By doing a conversation class you'll be using social skills, learning how to do research on language, using your memory, improving your English and much more.

Are there any other advantages?

The conversation classes seem to attract really interesting people. These are people who have valuable opinions and want to share them in a small group. By having classmates, you'll motivate each other to spend time improving your English.

You will also broaden your knowledge about a whole range of topics including health, travel, psychology, food and current affairs.

Do you use a course book in these classes?

Yes. I use course books that my students enjoy working with. I'll ask you to do one or two pages a week from the coursebook at home before the lesson. In class, we'll briefly review what you've done at home, helping you to use the new vocabulary and grammar you have learned.
