Over fifties book club

Updated: May 3

Are you interested in maintaining and improving your English? Perhaps you don't have time for a weekly lesson but do want to use your English with real people.

If so, a book club might be the right choice. It's great if you:

  • enjoy reading

  • like discovering new authors

  • want to practice speaking in a friendly environment

  • are curious about language

  • want to meet other English learners

My Monday evening book club has been going for over six years and in that time we've read over 40 books - probably more than 2,000,000 words! The Monday book club is full so I'm starting a new book club to be held once every two months on a Tuesday evening in Kreis 6 from 7.30pm to 9pm. This one is aimed at people who are over fifty, who want to maintain their English skills, love reading and enjoy meeting new people. The cost is 300chf per year.

We'll agree to read a short book (approx 200 pages) and meet up to discuss it. I'll share a few tips on vocabulary and grammar based on the book then let you do the talking either in a group or in pairs. At the end of each session, there will be some feedback to help you feel more confident with your English.

Book clubs are a sociable space where people exchange opinions, give advice to each other and share their experiences. The Kreis 6 English book club will help you meet new people, discover more about yourself and improve your English.

Get in touch soon, if you'd like to join. There are only two spaces left.

Update: The Tuesday book club is also full. It took a while to get it off the ground but the people who signed up recommended it to their friends and soon it was full. I'm now taking reservations for a book club on Friday evenings starting later in the year. It will be held once every two months from 7:30pm to 9pm.
